In 2008, after developing the US Division of the Fuller Woman Expo, I knew there was a need to create a body positive network that connected us, uplifted us and supported us in between initiatives. I met advocate and Super Model Mia Amber Davis -Yard that year in New York at FFFWeek and she offered to help in anyway she could. She then became our Spokesmodel. When Mia passed away the entire community was devastated.

We were committed to continuing to push the message of inclusion in our events and chose Spokesmodels that represented the community with the same fearlessness and sincerity as Mia. We looked no further than Supermodel, writer and advocate Allison McGevna. She was followed by Supermodel and activist Christina Mendez. We now look to SuperModel and founder of the "I am my own Beauty Standard" movement Monique Robinson. The latest International Fuller Woman Network Campaign came together by divine intervention. I was in New York after my fathers passing and felt working would be therapeutic for me. It just happened to be NYFW. I reached out to Monique Robinson and she just happened to be in New York. I reached out to Robert E. Knight, who created the dress that Mia wore in her first shoot, to see if he was available to style and he was! Photographer Jose' Pagan just happened to be in town and was able to contact brilliant Makeup Artist Prentiss Anais. Steffeny Allen, who styled nearly every shoot after Mia's passing, was also free. I pulled jewelry from my sisters closet and headed to Midtown.

I was not prepared for what happened that day. Robert still had the fabric that he used to create Mia's dress 10 years ago. When he got the call from me he used the same fabric to create a dress for Monique having no exact measurements. The dress fit perfectly! I was in tears most of the day, reflecting on what led us all here, activating in Mia's legacy, ready to effect change in new and exciting ways. Thank you to our Campaign Dream Teams old and new and to our extraordinary Fuller Woman Network Committee.. here's to 10 years of loving this amazing community. I look forward to more connection, more programs in more countries and more celebrations of the International Fuller Woman!
